5 Ways for Shiny Hair in Winter

Here are five ways to keep your hair looking shiny this winter:

1. Wash your hair less often. Ideally, you should be washing your hair every other day or once every few days. If that’s not feasible, make sure you’re alternating the type of shampoo you use. Use a lighter formula every other day so that you’re not stripping your hair of the moisture it needs. A lack of moisture can make your hair very dry, brittle and difficult to work with.

2. Take a day off using regular shampoo. If you’re washing your hair every day, give it a break and use a dry shampoo a few days a week. These come in a handy spray can and can be brushed or massaged into your hair for a light cleanse without water. They’re perfect for travelers and can be just what you need to maintain a shiny mane this season.

3. Treat hair to a deep conditioning treatment. Deep conditioning treatments such as hot oils and hair masks can help to repair damaged strands and give you that glossy, salon-like finish. Treat your hair to one of these treatments at least once per week to restore moisture and keep your hair strong and resilient.

4. Use a heat protectant serum before you style. Damaged hair will lose its luster and no amount of shine serum will help to create that smooth and glossy finish. Massage a heat protectant serum through your hair before you use that blow dryer or flatiron and your hair will be much more silky and shiny.

5. Eat more healthy fats. Your diet does play a role in how your hair looks and feels. A lack of healthy fats in your diet can lead to dull-looking strands. A diet rich in lean protein and healthy fats can make your hair grow stronger and more resilient. Your hair will maintain that natural shine all season long.
